4.10 ISLANDS ALLOWANCE

PNBS Circular 2023/06

The allowance shall apply to all ranks of officers who are permanently posted to an island, for the duration of that posting.

The allowance shall also apply to officers who are subject of a planned temporary transfer to an island posting and required to reside there on a temporary basis but not, for example, to officers based on the mainland who are deployed to an island (away from their usual place of duty) at short notice and unable to return home overnight. In the case of the latter, such an officer would be entitled to the existing Overnight Disruption Allowance.

Nothing within these arrangements would prevent an officer who is entitled to the Islands Allowance from claiming the Overnight Disruption Allowance in circumstances where they are deployed away from their usual place of duty on the island at short notice and unable to return home overnight.

With regards to Islands Allowance, an officer who is entitled to receive the allowance will continue to receive this whilst suspended from duty.

For the current rates of the allowances (see section 4.12)
