3.13 PARENTAL LEAVE
(a) An officer who has served continuously for at least a year and has, or expects to have responsibility for a child, is entitled to be absent from work on parental leave for the purpose of caring for that child.
(b) The officer is entitled to 18 weeks’ leave for each individual child up to their eighteenth birthday. It can be taken in blocks of days, there is no limit to the number of days which can be taken in a year but is subject to the exigencies of duty.
(c) For children expected on or after 1 April 2022 and all adopting parents who had an approved with match with an adopted child on or after 1 April 2022, there is entitlement to request for 4 weeks of the 18 week parental leave entitlement per child to be paid at full pay. The ability to request paid leave would commence w.e.f. 1 April 2023.
