The Health & Safety (Display Screen Equipment) Regulations 1992

(a) The Health and Safety (Display Screen Equipment) Regulations 1992 requires that officers who use DSE for a significant part of their normal working day are entitled to request regular eyesight tests.

(b) Where following these tests it is determined that an officer requires glasses for the purposes of using DSE only, then the Service will cover the cost of reasonable and appropriate frames and lenses.  Where frames are chosen for personal preference and this resulted in the price of the spectacles being more than that covered by PSoS, the officer would have to pay the difference as regulations only require that reasonable spectacles be provided.
